How did Megalodon Evolve?

  • Otodus obliquus was a shark species that lived from the Paleocene through the Miocene epochs, approximately 60 to 13 million years ago. This species is believed to be an ancestor of the Megalodon.

  • Over time, Otodus obliquus evolved into Otodus aksuaticus. The transition is marked by a change in the shape and serration of the teeth.

  • Otodus aksuaticus then evolved into Carcharocles auriculatus, followed by Carcharocles angustidens, Carcharocles chubutensis, and finally into Carcharocles megalodon (commonly known as Megalodon).

  • The Megalodon lived approximately from the early Miocene to the end of the Pliocene, 23 million to 3.6 million years ago.
